$250 Million for Rental Assistance and Affordable Housing Coronavirus Relief Initiatives

This COVID-19 initiative includes two funding pools of up to $240 million and set asides of up to $10 million in expected operational costs for the program.

1. Rental Assistance for Affordable Rental Housing Tenants

$120 million will be provided in the form of short-term rental assistance for COVID-19 impacted households residing at multifamily rental properties financed by the Florida Housing Finance Corporation (FHFC). FHFC will reimburse participating rental properties so they can subsidize eligible household's monthly rent. This assistance will be available to help pay a household’s rent from July through December 2020. Some households may also be eligible for rent assistance for the months of April, May, and June 2020. Ask your property's management office.

2. Rent and Mortgage Assistance

A separate pool of $120 million will be released to counties for rental and homeowner assistance programs such as new construction, rehabilitation, mortgage buydowns, down payment and closing cost assistance, emergency repairs and homeownership counseling for individuals impacted by COVID-19.

3. Operations Assistance for Special Needs and Homeless households

A one-time allocation of $2 million to assist with serving special needs and homeless households and persons residing in supportive housing development based on the total number of units.

More information on these programs is available from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation website at floridahousing.org.
